Why Should Nurses Meditate?
Meditation practitioners often express that meditating comes with a lot of advantages for anyone
practicing it. Meditation can serve as a good tool for nurses to relieve themselves of work-related
stress and depression. Indeed stress is inevitable for nurses; they deal with a lot of problems that
patients complain about. The inability to solve the problems of the patients can lead to troubling
situations in their private lives. Hence to prevent situations like these, nurses should meditate for
the following reasons;
Nurses should meditate to sleep easily. Sleeping most times is a difficult thing to do for nurses
regardless of the shifts, and without sleep, nurses become worn out like every other person. At
this point, the nurse may become cranky, and it also becomes difficult to focus, inadvertently, the
nurse stands a risk of making mistakes. However, with meditation, you can enhance your sleeping
ability as you will understand how to overcome worries that give you sleepless nights.
Meditation can also help prevent burnout of nurses. Many nurses experience burnout at different
stages in their career, a lot of them point fingers at the working condition as being responsible for
this, but the refusal to go on a break can also be held accountable for burnout. Meditation can
assist in preventing burnout by decreasing your stress and anxiety level. Meditation avails a nurse
the opportunity to review her motives of going into the profession in the first instance.
Nurses should also meditate to alleviate the pains they regularly experience, such as neck pain,
backache, and headache. Although a lot of these pains are not psychological, medication can
relax your body and thus assist in combatting the pains differently.
Also, meditation can help nurses understand and control their emotions and reactions. Nurses
come in contact with a lot of people daily, and irrespective of how pleasant they are some people
are bent on frustrating their efforts. In such a situation, a meditating Nurse tends to know how
to control her emotions and reaction. It has been established by a lot of research works that
meditation aids the release of serotonin; the hormone believed to be responsible for happiness
or joy in the body.
